Edmonton Green Leisure Centre by Wyrmworld

Projects from South America and Europe in this third part of our educational architecture selection. Check them all after the break.

Gerardo Molina School / Giancarlo Mazzanti
As the Project will be winding and turning it will be opening to the city, leaving space for small squares and exterior parks for public usage, leaving behind the bars and walls that stereotyped education institutions as closed spaces. The conformation of small squares and green spaces with trees direct on the surrounding streets, accompanied by the auction modules, will redefine direct accesses (read more…)

Duoc Corporate Building / Sabbagh Arquitectos
After the requirement of a building for the central offices of Duoc, there were four additional topics which were essential and needed to be solved. The first one, was the fact that the building’s location was in the yard of Antonio Varas branch, former German School and typical building of the neighborhood (read more…)

Performers’ House / SHL Architects
The project – centred on a 19th-century paper mill – was commended for the simplicity of the design, characterised by the choice of materials as well as the successful transformation of an existing historic boiler house. The new building is linked to the refurbished boiler house by a new square where many folk high school activities take place, reinforcing connections with the local community (read more…)

Los Silos Youth Centre / Lavin Arquitectos
The concrete plane like a tectonic plate, folds the land and incorporates, by way of an embracing gesture, a recreation of fragments of nature, the landscape and vegetation which spirals in a single centripetal movement to absorb the visual and spatial flows of its surroundings. The design combines versatility, ambivalence y permeability, to generate an interrelation of interior spaces and to project these towards the exterior (read more…)

Bondy School / Atelier Phileas
The project is developed on the basis of a programme consisting of 15 classes, a canteen and a leisure centre, with a special feature: two spaces (multi-purpose hall and computer room) are open to the public outside school time. In view of the environmental approach, in particular prevailing winds and an attempt to make use of free solar power, we chose to place the classrooms on the east and split the programme into two parts (read more…)

Certain infectious and parasitic diseases

Posted on 30th January 2010 by miguelgraham1988 in Health Club

This summer is almost over, but some risks are present throughout the year. While this is not likely for there to be problems with and other parasites now that the hot weather has ended, some risks continue throughout the year, especially if you live in a warm climate. Even in cold areas, where snow and ice can make life very uncomfortable for us, the winter forced insects and other pests to hide, but it did not necessarily kill them. Parasites lie dormant throughout the winter, and they later simply return in warmer weather or even occasional warm days in winter.

If you follow the following preventive measures, you can always reduce the risk of infection or death that is caused by certain parasites.

1: Make sure that your cat's litter box is perfectly clean. Clean it more than once a day, if you have more than one cat using the litter box. Ideally, you should have one litter box, for each cat. Litter pans should be placed in strategic locations so that your cats do not have to wait to urinate.

2: After you clean the litter box, make sure that you wash your hands to prevent the spread of infectious diseases that may be caused waste materials in the litter box. Parasites that infect cats can also be transmitted to humans and other animals in the home, such as roundworms, hookworms, and some bacteria.

3: You should pay close attention to your cat so that you should be aware of possible changes in their behavior, appearance and habits. If one of your cats has ear mites, for example, they will start to scratch their head or neck, sometimes drawing blood. Some parasites such as hookworm, will cause the cat to produce very dark stools. Tapeworms will cause a cat to have small white spots in its fur and under its tail. Other parasites, such as roundworms, can lead to vomiting and diarrhea. Massage or brush your cat daily to stay aware of the conditions of their fur and skin, and watch out for fleas, ticks, and sores.

4: Do not allow your cat to come into contact with feces from any other animals. This one of the reasons that you should keep all of your litter boxes clean. One cat should not be stepping into a litter box that another cat has just used. That cat might get fecal matter on its claws. They might even attempt to lick it off. You should also make sure that your cats do not step in any fecal matter that is left by your dogs.

5: Write down a veterinarian's telephone number so that you are able to immediately send your cat to his office if one of your cats is experiencing signs of a potential serious health problem.

6: Send your cat to a veterinarian's office so that they are spayed or neutered, and vaccinated, as is required by your area to get a professional clean bill of health for future seasons. Test your cat for any parasitic diseases that are common in your area, including heart worms and Giardia. Treatment is only effective if you catch it early.

Enjoy your cat companion, by fully catering for their needs, as much as you can.
